Mount Duneed Regional Primary students are stuck with muddy shoes and wet socks after consistent inaction from the City of Greater Geelong. The council’s failure to provide the necessary measures to ensure the safety of children and families leaves them subject to harm on Williams and Feehans Road.

As Mount Duneed, Armstrong Creek, and Charlemont are growing exponentially, ensuring that children have safe passage to school should be one of the council’s highest priorities.

The member for South Barwon, Darren Cheeseman MP, spoke about the lack of support shown by the City of Greater Geelong in the new growth corridor. The member for South Barwon spoke in parliament last week, drawing attention to the repeated refusal by the council to ensure the safe passage of local children on numerous occasions. In the face of the council's repeated inaction and growing concerns about their children’s safety, the parents of the Mount Duneed Regional Primary School have created a petition to the council to ensure that the City of Greater Geelong includes this crucial community infrastructure in their Community Plan.

The implementation of a safe road passage would achieve the council’s objective of having a “Proud, Safe, and Healthy” community and prioritises the safety of Geelong’s next generation.

The petition can be located on the member for South Barwon’s website, under the Campaigns Tab.

Quotes attributable to the Member for South Barwon, Darren Cheeseman MP: “The call for action by Mount Duneed Regional Primary School Parents is justified. Ensuring our children get to school safe is of the utmost priority.” “The inaction of the City of Greater Geelong is insulting to students and their families who have had near misses with motor vehicles and are subject to dangerous road conditions daily.”

Quotes attributable to Community Parent:The roads are hazardous and unreachable; with poor parking conditions this means that there is a severe lack of accessibility. There is simply no inclusion.”
