Dear City of Greater Geelong Councillors,
I am writing to you today on behalf of the concerned families and students of Mount Duneed Primary School. As the State Member for South Barwon, I have met with these families, and I am fully supportive of their efforts to improve safety in their community.
It has come to my attention that there is a critical need for safe access for students and families of Mount Duneed Primary School in their commute to and from the school. The community is calling on the City of Greater Geelong to provide the necessary funds to ensure that temporary paths and safe crossing access are put in place from the surrounding estates along Feehans and Williams Roads.
As you know, enabling communities to walk and ride promotes healthy behaviour, while reducing car congestion and emissions. Providing safe access to the school would meet the community’s transport needs and help reduce the community’s overall carbon footprint.
Community members have launched a petition calling on the City of Greater Geelong to take urgent action on this matter. The petition launched on the 22nd of March 2023 has attracted over 400 signatures. I have provided you with a copy of this petition which can be viewed https://bit.ly/3GW8TGh
The families of Mount Duneed Primary School feel that this infrastructure is essential to ensure the safety of the children and the wider community. I strongly urge you to consider their request and provide the necessary funding to address this issue promptly.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to hearing of its resolution.
State Member for South Barwon
