Delivering for South Barwon

Barwon Heads Road Upgrade

The Barwon Heads Road upgrade extends four kilometres between Settlement Road and Reserve Road and was a key election promise that I am proud to be fulfilling.

The project involves duplication, new traffic lights, 4km of walking and cycling paths and a bridge over the railway line, removing the level crossing. This will improve traffic flow, safety, access to active and public transport and cater for 44,000 daily journeys by 2031. This project is already creating thousands of jobs in our local community.

Bellarine Link

The Bellarine Link is the extension of the Geelong Ring Road, and planning money has been provided in the 2021 State Budget.

This project will involve the extension of Geelong Ring Road from Baanip Boulevard to Barwon Heads Road and then the extension from Barwon Heads Road to Portarlington Road and the Bellarine. This important infrastructure project will reduce congestion, improves travel times and safety, and provides sustainable and inclusive transport options.

Waurn Ponds Station Upgrade

The Waurn Ponds Station Upgrade and duplication adds a new track and platform to Waurn Ponds station, allowing trains to pass each other and help improve service reliability. A new overpass has been installed allowing for easy access to both platforms for passengers. This project also includes a car park upgrade, 200 new and upgraded spaces.

Marshall Station Upgrade

The Marshall Station Upgrade will duplicate the tracks and add a second platform, creating a more modern and accessible station. This includes a new enclosed waiting room, new building and forecourt, and better interchange with local buses. A new pedestrian overpass will be constructed to provide safe and accessible connections for passengers. More than 200 new car parks will provide more access for passengers.

South Geelong-Waurn Ponds Duplication

The South Geelong to Waurn Ponds duplication means a more reliable, more regular train service for the Geelong Line. 5 train services per hour during peaks and 3 trains per hour between Marshall and Waurn Ponds. This project includes the addition of a second platform at South Geelong, Marshall and Waurn Ponds. This project increases reliability and service frequency.

Grovedale West Primary School Redevelopment

$6.56 million has been dedicated to the redevelopment of Grovedale West Primary School. Grovedale West is a great local school, and it deserves modern facilities to match it. An architect has been appointed and they are planning the redevelopment currently. I look forward to providing further updates when they are available.

Geelong Women's and Children's Hospital

The Andrews Labor Government is fully funding stage one and two of the more than $500 million Barwon Women’s and Children’s Hospital redevelopment so that new parents and young kids can get the world-class pediatric and specialist care they need, without travelling to Melbourne. This Budget also delivers better cancer care for patients in Geelong with a new radiotherapy linear accelerator for Barwon Health.

2026 Commonwealth Games

We're bringing the Commonwealth Games back to Victoria in 2026. These Games will be unlike any before in the history of the Commonwealth Games - they will be held in regional cities across the state – with athlete hubs in regional centers including in Geelong. This will offer the opportunity for regional cities and towns to host major events, tourism, arts, culture, and sport well beyond the Commonwealth Games – and help deliver the triple benefit of creating local jobs and housing and boosting regional economies too.

Charlemont Primary School

After strong community support to a petition, we're getting on with planning for the future of Victorian families in the growing suburb of Charlemont – securing land for the new Horseshoe Bend Primary School (interim name), so that more kids get to go to a great school, with great teachers, close to home.

Extra Bus Connections

Thousands of Victorians also rely on their local bus to get them to work, school and around their community. Now, thanks to the investment in this Budget, Victorians will get a smarter, faster and more reliable bus network including $13.9 million to deliver improved bus connections between the Surf Coast, Armstrong Creek and Geelong – so Victorians spend less time waiting at the bus stop and more time at home with loved ones.

Bellaire Primary School Redevelopment

$7.64 million has been dedicated to the redevelopment of Bellaire Primary School, including rebuilding several ageing classrooms. An architect has been appointed and they are planning the redevelopment currently, I look forward to sharing more updates as this project progresses.

This fantastic facility will include nearly 100 kinder places for three and four-year-olds, maternal health rooms, family support services and community spaces for all to enjoy. The new Kinder will be ready to accept enrollment for 2023.
